Home décor
Which handmade lamp suits a living room?
Handmade lamps are not one object with many colours. In a living room they do two different jobs, and Saanvi Home keeps them separate. A table lamp lets you see. Painted star lights, fairy lights, and leather lamps change the colour of the wall after dusk.
When do you want a table lamp?
When someone sits and reads, sews, or talks in that corner. The shade should meet a seated eye, which is the placement in our note on where a lamp should sit. A hand-painted floral shade is both the light and the object you look at in the daytime, so it needs a side table, not a crowded shelf.
When do star lights belong in the room?
When the wall is plain and the room already has a reading light somewhere else. Hand-painted star lights and fairy-tree lights are decorative lights. Hang them on the wall you see from the sofa, with the lowest point above head height if anyone walks under them. They are not a substitute for the lamp beside the seat. One cluster is plenty. A second string on the opposite wall splits the room.
What about leather lamps?
Plain leather lamps give a warmer, quieter shade when the room already has strong colour in the paintings. Use them as the reading light, not as a row of matching shades. The full range is in lamps and lights. Pick the job first, then the painting on the shade. A living room rarely needs more than one lamp you read by and one glow on the wall.
Questions we hear in the studio
Which handmade lamp is best for a living room?
A table lamp beside the sofa if people read or talk there. Painted star lights or fairy lights if you want the wall to glow after dusk.
Where should decorative lights be hung?
On a wall you see from the sofa, clear of curtains and not above a head you will bump. Keep the lowest point above 180 centimetres in a walkway.
Can one room have both a lamp and string lights?
Yes, if they do different jobs. The table lamp is for seeing. The star lights are for the evening mood. Turn the brighter one off when you only want the glow.
